Accessable MoH EMS Budget Position Update: Financial Year result 2018-19

Accessable is pleased to announce the 2018/19 financial year-end budget position for its Equipment and Modification Services (EMS) at ~1% [$230,011] overspent. This achievement is particularly welcomed in light of the 15% overspend at the beginning of the budget year (see graph below) and the increasing demand pressures EMS is under, which for this year has been unprecedented.

As demand for services grows year on year, even with an increase in budget allocation, the expectation of us to deliver EMS services within budget was highly challenging this year. In order to achieve maximum outcomes for the budget allocated, we are often required to have robust conversations with our Assessor colleagues whilst working together to achieve appropriate solutions for people within the funding parameters. This year was no exception, however, with our combined efforts we have been able to meet the needs of 572 more people year on year which is a positive achievement.

As the EMS provider administering Ministry funding, our obligation is to meet demand within the annual allocated budget. We understand it is not easy for Assessors to have this same focus on the overall budget result whilst carrying out your role of determining whether your individual clients meet eligibility criteria and identifying the most appropriate and cost-effective solution to meet the person’s identified needs. Notwithstanding this, Accessable wishes to sincerely thank all Assessors for your efforts which have contributed to this positive outcome.

The Accessable team would like to reinforce that we realise Accessable could not have achieved these results without strong collaborative relationships with Assessors in the sector and we acknowledge everyone’s contribution.

Accessable recognises the ongoing challenge we all face in the new financial year to deliver EMS services where they are needed and looks forward to our positive relationships continuing. We will continue to track results and update you on a monthly basis so you can again monitor our combined progress during this 2019/20 year.
